Finding Equivalences Among Abstract Actions

چکیده

Separating what is relevant from what is not can turn an intractable learning problem into a solvable one by reducing the complexity of the problem. Abstraction is a good general tool for sorting out relevant and irrelevant information. There are two common types of abstraction: state abstraction, and hierarchical actions. This paper examines the ways in which state abstraction can be used in the context of a given action hierarchy.

Behavioral Equivalences

DEFINITION: Beahvioral equivalences serve to establish in which cases two reactive (possible concurrent) systems offer similar interaction capabilities relatively to other systems representing their operating environment. Behavioral equivalences have been mainly developed in the context of process algebras, mathematically rigorous languages that have been used for describing and verifying prope...

A gentle introduction to Process Algebras

Process Algebras are mathematically rigorous languages with well defined semantics that permit describing and verifying properties of concurrent communicating systems. They can be seen as models of processes, regarded as agents that act and interact continuously with other similar agents and with their common environment. The agents may be real-world objects (even people), or they may be artifa...

Logical characterization of probabilistic τ -bisimulation equivalences

Stochastic Petri nets (SPNs) is a well-known model for quantitative analysis. We consider the class called DTWSPNs that is a modification of discrete time SPNs (DTSPNs) by transition labeling and weights. Transitions of DTWSPNs are labeled by actions that represent elementary activities and can be visible or invisible for an external observer. For DTWSPNs, interleaving and step probabilistic τ ...

A Polynomial-Time Algorithm for Global Value Numbering

We describe a polynomial-time algorithm for global value numbering, which is the problem of discovering equivalences among program sub-expressions. We treat all conditionals as non-deterministic and all program operators as uninterpreted. We show that there are programs for which the set of all equivalences contains terms whose value graph representation requires exponential size. Our algorithm...

The Influence of Durational Actions on Time Equivalences

The hierarchy of untimed equivalences is well understood for action-based systems. This is not the case for timed systems, where it is, for example, possible to detect concurrency by single timed action execution. To clarify the connection between equivalences in timed systems, a timed version of configuration structures is introduced together with timed equivalence notions adapted from untimed...
